Through the Hajar Mountains to Khor Fakkan, Sharjah's bay on the Gulf of Oman.
Khor Fakkan belongs to Sharjah but sits on the far side of the country, and the road there is half the point: tunnels through the Hajar Mountains, then a reservoir among bare peaks. You stop at Al Rafisah Dam, look down on the whole bay from the Al Suhub rest area, and walk to the waterfall beside the Khor Fakkan Amphitheatre. The afternoon belongs to the corniche and the beach, with time for lunch by the water before the drive home.
